lot of three turn of the century glass blobtop beer bottles manufactured for chicago bottlers william pfeifer and f.p.h. rack. two of the bottles are amber weiss beer bottles fabricated for william pfeifer. they feature the same embossing of an open-lined monogram "wp", surrounded by bottler name and city. the lot includes a single colorless blobtop beer bottle, embossed "f.p.h. rack / table beer / chicago". crudities are typical of age and date of manufacture. the bottles are privy dug, and so appear to have some spots of discoloration, irridization or surface wear. one of the pfeifer bottles has a chip at the finish, but the bottles are otherwise intact. william pfeifer operated a brewery bearing his name from 1888-1918, though it may have changed address and iteration several times during that period. according to a 1912 publication, ed j. birk & bro. consolidated with william pfeifer weiss beer company. additionally, it is unknown whether william pfeifer was related to philip pfeifer, who partnered with nikolaus bassler in the bottling business in mascoutah,, illinois during the 1860's (his son philip pfeifer jr. took over the works at bassler's death in 1885).
