modified vintage american industrial two tier stationary munitions plant side table fabricated by or for the defense plant corporation. the side table is comprised of all-welded joint heavy gauge angled steel. the brushed metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the single sliding drawer contains the factory department number in the form of large hand-painted yellow enameled lettering. the two raised edge tiers contain newly added distressed pine wood boards that have been stained and sealed. the original oval-shaped riveted joint inventory identification brass plaque with slightly raised lettering is prominently displayed directly above the drawer. the defense plat corporation (dfc) was a subsidiary of the reconstruction finance corporation (rpc), which was an independent agency of the united states government, established and chartered by the us congress in 1932, during the administration of president herbert hoover. it was modeled after the war finance corporation of world war i. the agency gave $2 billion in aid to state and local governments and made loans to banks, railroads, mortgage associations and other businesses. it was continued by the new deal and played a major role in handling the great depression in the united states and setting up the relief programs that were taken over by the new deal in 1933. 26 X 22 X 32"
