refinished all-welded joint american vintage industrial baltimore prison cell inmate's brushed steel desk with built-in compartments and heavy duty swing-out seat

c. 1950's american penitentiary cell desk comprised of all-welded joint heavy gauge cold-rolled steel. the stationary baltimore prison desk was likely fabricated by the stewart iron works, convington, ky. the desk contains a compartmentalized module for storage of personal articles. the distinctive integrated swing-out stool seat contains a reinforced pivoting bracket, supporting a tightly affixed pressed and folded circular-shaped seat. the horizontal angled steel stretcher doubles as a footrest. the jail desk has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the interior regions have been painted a bright cherry red enameled finish for added contrast. the institutional desk was originally bolted against the floor and wall of a 6 x 8 prison cell. salvaged from the maryland penitentiary, baltimore, md. last one in stock. desk measures 36 1/2 x 16 x 30 inches.
