original and hard to find early twentieth century mug base soda bottle manufactured for john hessler in chicago, il. the squat body tapers into a long neck and crown cap finish. the neck exhibits concentric markings and surface wear. the front body is heavily embossed, "john hessler / bottling works / 655 austin ave / chicago, ill", with a small monogram logo "jh" flanked by the words "trade / mark" between the first two lines. the bottle ends in a 6-paneled mug base. john hessler was in business from 1898 until 1912.
