all original and completely intact c. 1900-05 vintage industrial ornamental yellow brass factory office desk or table lamp. features a unique and unusual l-shaped bent tubular brass arm with rope motif and ball finial. the angle and/or position of the lamp and arm are controlled by adjusting the two dial type set screws. the original perkins key or paddle socket has been rewired with period appropriate black rayon lamp cord. the fanciful fluted base contains a concealed cast iron weight for support and stability. the unique and hard to find brass-plated parabola-shaped rolled rim reflector contains a riveted joint shade holder designed and patented by robert faries of decatur, il. the holder consists of a hollow cylinder surmounted by a set of strips (attached to the end of the socket) converging toward a line extended through the axis of the cylinder and zigzaged near their apexes. the bases of the strips are seated on and form a continuation of the upper edge of the cylinder riveted to the shade. the rare early electric industrial lamp was fabricated by the faries mfg. co., decatur, il. nicely aged surface patina mostly uniform throughout.
