rare 19th century documented single-sided hand-painted american exterior storefront "physician & surgeon" wood hanging trade sign with pointing finger and original gold leaf lettering

exceptional all original and unrestored 19th century antique american folk art exterior storefront trade sign designed and fabricated for doctor e.m. ripley of farmington, connecticut. the beveled edge oversized wood sign is accentuated with a pointing or directional finger, along with ruby red diamonds and circles used to highlight the fanciful lettering. the original gold leaf finish remains in great overall condition considering age. the uniquely-shaped plaque or trade sign is comprised of pine wood. the black smaltz (i.e., textured back paint background) is in good condition. the exact sign fabricator or artist is not known. measures 38 x 1 x 23.5 inches
