original salvaged chicago factory "empty every night" galvanized steel foot-operated oily rag trash or waste can

hard to find fully operable early 20th century antique american industrial "justrite" stationary factory oily waste can or receptacle. the robust "no. 1" black stenciled waste can is comprised of reinforced galvanized steel with a customary cylindrical shape. the waste can is supported by three flat strips of metal with a convex upper face. the pressed and formed rolled rim top contains riveted joint metals straps serving as the hinge mechanism and foot pedal (i.e., hooped formation projecting outward). the bent steel handle is secured tightly to the backside of the can. the original red enameled finish covering the strap work remains largely intact. surface wear consistent with age. designed by charles s. packer for the justrite mfg. co., chicago, il. established in 1906. justrite has long been a leading manufacturer of quality metal products for the janitorial/sanitary, hotel/motel and hospitality markets. the embossed stamped steel inspection tag (issued by the underwriters' laboratories inc.) is prominently displayed on the front of the can. original bright yellow "empty every night" instructional label partially intact. brushed metal sealed with a clear coat lacquer. salvaged from an old chicago public school boiler room.
