original late 1930's american vintage industrial brushed cold-rolled steel simmons dresser with distinctive drop-down desk

refinished 1930's american industrial mobile compartmentalized heavy gauge steel combination dresser designed and fabricated by the simmons mfg. co., kenosha, wisc.
the highboy dresser contains a brushed metal finish that has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the pressed and folded depression era metal dresser was likely designed by albert witike in the late 1920's or early 1930's.
the four turned and tapered pedestal style legs are structurally sound and stable. the original pressed steel drawer pulls or knobs are in great condition.
the pressed steel bassick casters are original and in great working condition. the upright cabinet retains the original circular label (often found on the interior left side side of the top drawer).
the third door from the bottom up, contains a drop-down door containing a pull-out "desk" with ink well cup integrated on the sliding or retractable metal top.
simmons specialized in metal bed frame fabrication primarily for hospitals, hotels and other commercial settings. the refinished highboy simmons machine age cabinet with casters was salvaged from a chicago hotel.
