highly stylized all original american art deco style c. 1933-34 "century of progress" chicago world's fair stamped or pressed copper metal ashtray souvenir. the recessed region features a centrally located embossed or lightly raised depiction of the general motors building/exhibit surrounded by multiple "speed" rings. the exact fabricator is nt known.the souvenir tray is intact and retains a nicely aged surface patina. the general motors building was an eighth of a mile long and 306 feet wide, surrounded by a 177-foot tower, brilliantly colored, and illuminated. the entrance hall was divided into two main display rooms, each containing 18,000 square feet. here the cars of general motors were on exhibition. in one of the rooms the general motors research laboratories presented a display of their own. measures 3 x 3 inches.
