hard to find c. 1920's streamlined style art deco cast bronze guest room door key fob and lockwood cut key once used at the extant mark hopkins hotel, located in san francisco, ca. the visually distinctive diminutive key fob is strongly geometric in design and profile, with emphasis placed on the verticality of the towering hotel facade. the fob contains a nicely aged and uniform surface patina throughout. located in the knob hill district of san francisco , the 19-story mark hopkins hotel was built in 1926 by the architectural firm of weeks and day. the hotel is named after mark hopkins, one of the founders of the central pacific railroad. mining engineer and hotel investor george d. smith purchased the nob hill site and began construction of a luxury hotel designed with a combination of french château and spanish ornamentation.
