elegantly designed and finely executed early 20th century antique american interior residential "monaco" pattern passage door backplate designed and fabricated by the yale & towne mfg. co., stamford, ct. the oversized doorknob backplate contains an inner beaded border with opposed leafage and scrollwork surrounding the screw holes. traces of the original copper-plated finish remains intact. the brushed metal surface has been slightly darkened with an oil-rubbed metallic bronze enamel. measures 8 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches.
