all original and intact c. 1910-1920 antique american industrial "model 844" gold enameled diminutive glass x-ray pendant light designed and fabricated by curtis lighting, inc., chicago, ills. the conical-shaped shade with an encased reflecting element (i.e., silver nitrate) retains the original nicely patinated gold enameled finish. the original "a" type shade fitter is comprised of steel with the original black paint finish largely intact. the pendant reflector contains a large and robust white glazed porcelain or ceramic socket and has been rewired with period appropriate rayon cloth braided cord. the four x-ray lights contain porcelain sockets, matching shade fitters and off-white rayon cloth cord. the first x-ray reflector was designed in 1897 by the curtis lighting company. the unique reflectors were hand-made from a special grade of glass, free from imperfections such as seeds, bubbles, and discoloration. the reflecting element applied to the outer surface of the glass is pure silver, completely protected by the glass on the inner side of the shade or reflector. the silver "armor" finish is a scientific process that was used in curtis research laboratories to keep "the silver bright." four matching fixtures available. each fixture is priced individually. note: the shade on this fixture has been repaired. difficult to see, but a clean fragment was glued back into place. hardly noticeable, but needs to be disclosed and price is adjusted accordingly. measures 8 1/2 inches in diameter x 8 inches high.
