original and largely intact antique american freestanding interconnected four-seat chicago theater folding chair section with heavily ornamented cast iron backrests

early 20th century original freestanding antique american interconnected four-seat chair section purportedly from the riviera theater designed by the architectural firm of rapp and rapp for balaban & katz in 1917. the multi-chair section is comprised of mahogany wood fold-up saddle seats and slightly contoured backrests accentuated with punched or perforated floral design motifs. the armrests, swivel brackets, legs, etc., are comprised of cast iron with original baked black enameled finish. the highly ornate detachable backrest ornament features foliated scrollwork, shells and leafage. the very well-maintained auditorium theater seating is structurally sound. the legs are designed to be mounted tightly against the floor to prevent movement. the iron and wood components have been lightly cleaned to bring out nicely patinated finish. the theater chairs were likely fabricated by the a.h. andrews company, chicago, il. priced for the entire assembly as shown.
