museum quality late 1950's reinforced cast aluminum wall-mount grant hospital interior lobby oversized dedication plaque with incised lettering

historically important flush mount brushed cast aluminum flush mount chicago-based grant hospital interior lobby dedication or ceremonial plaque. the exact sign fabricator is not known. the plaque was salvaged from the lincoln park hospital (formerly grant hospital) prior to the building's demolition. the non-extant hospital building was built between 1959-60 by the architectural firm of holabird and roche. grant hospital of chicago was incorporated in 1883 as the german hospital of chicago to serve the primarily german immigrant population of the area around its lincoln park location, the corner of lincoln avenue and webster on the north side of chicago. around the time of world war i the name was changed to grant hospital of chicago reflecting the diversifying population of its staff, patients and neighborhood. the oversized beveled-edge plaque contains lightly incised lettering accentuated with a baked black enameled lettering. surface wear evident. contains four pre-drilled holes for mounting purposes. 18" x 28".
