unusual vintage american industrial modified freestanding reinforced cast iron tapered pedestal base possibly fabricated by the grand rapids grinding machine co., grand rapids, mi. the base contains a flared circular flange with pre-drilled holes for anchoring against the floor. the telescoping post with welded joint cross-bar is mounted tightly in place. the brushed metal finish was treated with a clear coat lacquer. lightly embossed manufacturer markings found along the pedestal base. salvaged from a local chicago machine shop. dates to the 1930's. measures 31 inches tall.
