original late 19th or early 20th century antique american interior residential flush mount floor grate or register designed and fabricated by or for the hess warming & ventilating co., chicago, il. the fully functional register is comprised largely or decorative iron with uniform black enameled finish. the multiple cast iron louvers pivot with ease. the original and hard to find matching decorative cast iron surround is included. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence undergoing demolition. measures 15.5 x 17.5 x 3 inches.
