single original and intact late 19th century antique american ornamental cast iron freestanding exterior residential newel post designed and fabricated by the dearborn foundry company, chicago, ills. the black enameled metal fence post is accentuated with two floral rosettes, ball finial and a tapered and fluted midsection. the 19th century chicago newel post was salvaged from a chicago workers cottage undergoing demolition. measures 6 x 6 x 33 inches.
