late 1860's single original interior commercial building turned and tapered solid walnut staircase landing newel post with original cap and handrail segment

original late 1860's original and intact pre-fire chicago solidly constructed walnut wood freestanding interior milwaukee avenue commercial building staircase newel post possibly fabricated by the c.j.l. meyer mfg. co., chicago, il. the simple, yet elegant profile achieved with the use of a steam-powered lathe is very typical of this time period. a small section of bolted (from the underside) handrail remains in great shape. multiple lengths of walnut railing available. several matching newel posts of this style and/or profile were salvaged from the front and rear staircases of the residential areas of the building.
