american depression era c. 1930's industrial stationary four-legged lightweight pressed and folded steel simmons side chair designed and fabricated by the simmons mfg. co., kenosha, wisc. the all-metal chair contains tubular steel legs, with the front two featuring a turned and tapered design. the simple, yet elegant backrest contains four equally-spaced unornamented slats resting atop a horizontal stretcher. the original red cushioned seat remains in good condition with general surface wear and discoloration consistent with age. the brushed and sanded metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the chair was salvaged from a chicago hospital building containing several "private" rooms outfitted with simmons furniture. Seat measures 16 inches x 15 inches, height 34.5 inches
