early 1870's antique american victorian era interior residential coal or wood burning fireplace mantel surround designed and fabricated by or for henry dibblee & co., chicago, il. the single-sided surround was salvaged from an 1870s chicago italianate residence undergoing demolition. the round top surround is in good condition with no cracks or breaks evident. the baked black enameled or japanned finish is largely uniform throughout.
