very unique and hard to find deeply embossed ornamental cast bronze moorish revival "cordova" pattern interior residential doorknob backplate. likely fabricated around 1900 by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the heavy cast metal backplate features an elaborate ogee arch supported by flaking pilasters. contains three screw holes, single keyhole and collar or thimble for the doorknob shank. nicely aged surface patina. measures approximately 7 x 2 7/8 inches.
