original antique american department store adjustable dress form designed and fabricated by the l & m ellanam adjustable form co., new york city, ny. the flexible steel frame, comprised of interconnected straps, remains structurally sound. the cast iron ornamental base has a baked black enameled finish. the dress form or torso slipcover is original with a nicely aged surface. retains the original faucet-style cast iron handles or wheels used to adjust the form to any desired shape, size, etc. the ellanam adjustable form company made a name for itself with its adjustable dress form: consisting of a three-dimensional headless, limbless female mannequin used for sewing purposes. the breakthrough adjustable model, heavily advertised to housewives in the early 20th century, could be easily altered to accommodate clothes of any shape or size. measures 57 1/4 inches in height.
