original early 20th century antique american ornamental wrought bronze exterior or entrance door backplate likely fabricated by the reading hardware co., reading, pa. possibly a variation of the "mura" pattern. the elongated oval-shaped doorknob backplate contains a a large circular opening for use with a cylinder lock. the wrought yellow brass thimble or collar is original and intact. mostly uniform surface patina. measures approximately 8 1/2 x 2 3/8 inches.
