early antique american industrial refinished riveted joint steel side table with hinged louvered cabinet door

seldom found early 20th century hard to find and highly sought after heavy gauge cold-rolled steel freestanding combination locket cabinet and side table designed and fabricated by or for the durand steel locker company, inc., chicago, il. the unusually small and compact cabinet contains a single hinged door with ventilation louvers at the top and bottom. the interior compartment retains the original dark burgundy baked enameled finish with multiple fixed metal shelves. the heavy duty locker was salvaged from a chicago factory foreman's office. the brushed and sanded metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the original riveted joint manufacturer's plaque is comprised of stamped brass. several variations of lockers and cabinets fabricated by durand are available. the original adjustable flange feet, comprised of cast iron, are in great condition and fully functional. measures 16 1/2 x 16 1/2 x 31 1/2 inches.
