well-executed all original early 20th century antique american hammered wrought iron exterior residential window hood or header fragment attributed to f.p. smith wire & ironworks, chicago, ills. the beaux-arts style header fragment was salvaged during the late 1950's from a prominent chicago mansion located in the gold coast neighborhood of chicago. the heavily ornamented metalwork contains an impressive array of deep relief roman acanthus leafage with scrollwork finished in a nicely distressed silver metallic finish. the residential header centerpiece contains riveted joint assembly. great overall condition, considering age. measures 6 x 4 1/2 x 19 inches.
