c.. 1890's antique american ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace gas insert surround or outer frame designed and fabricated by the dawson brothers, chicago, il. the iron surround contains a mostly uniform metallic gold enameled finish throughout. the protruding hood is replete with elegantly designed acanthus leafage. the two flanking pilasters are fluted with ionic captials. additional components (e.g., ash grate, backing with jet burners, etc) was removed long ago. measures 24 1/2 x 30 1/2 inches.
