single original late 19th century antique american highly ornamented cast iron interior residential salvaged chicago flush mount wall grate or register designed and fabricated by or for the hess warming & ventilating co., tacoma building, chicago, ills. the grate contains a mostly uniform black enameled finish throughout. the lever and louvers are original and fully functional. the design is remarkable with anthemions, a sunburst motif and an attractive border. several grates with this exact design were salvaged from a chicago residence undergoing demotion. priced individually.
