19th century salvaged chicago freestanding ornamental cast iron newel post with ball finial and nicely weathered finish

all original 19th century antique american victorian era ornamental cast iron "chicago style" newel post with nicely aged finish. the freestanding newel post was designed and fabricated by the dearborn foundry co., chicago, il. the exterior newel post features a unique embossed ring ball finial resting atop a pedimented base. the newel post was salvaged from the outdoor stoop of a chicago single-story victorian brick cottage undergoing demolition. the dearborn foundry manufactured several different sizes of this particular design. originally installed at the stoop landing and reinforced with interconnected tubular iron rails, supported by brackets mounted on the stone treads leading to the entrance door. several cast iron newel posts salvaged from chicago available.
