19th century american full-figured solid cherry wood salvaged chicago interior residential rearing lion with intricately carved features

exceptional late 19th century refinished hand-carved solid cherry wood freestanding rearing lion likely fabricated by the decorators supply co., chicago, ills. the solid cherry wood diminutive figural lion was salvaged from a very elegant victorian era room divider housed in a chicago graystone mansion built in 1895. the figural lions have also been seen for use as ornament on fireplace mantels with opposed columns. the full-figure lion features intricately detailed claw foot paws, long and flowing mane and highly realistic facial features. the carved wood lion measures 12 inches in height.
