completely intact early 20th century vintage industrial four light socket cluster with edison screw base plug. the keyless socket cluster contains a yellow brass shell or enclosure held in place with four porcelain socket rings or insulators. socket clusters are connected groups of lamp sockets that may be used in a single socket or as part of a fixture to permit several lamps to be burned simultaneously. they are frequently used for indirect and semi-indirect lighting fixtures or with glass balls or domes. this arrangement breaks up the light source into several smaller units and thus reduces the intrinsic brilliancy; it often gives a more artistic effect than a single lamp. the clusters are frequently arranged for mounting on an iron pipe or fixture stem, and in some forms are made with a plug at one end to screw into a medium-base socket. they are generally arranged so that only two wires need be connected to the cluster. from two to seven lamps are commonly used and the connections may be made so that the lamps are in series or parallel: the series connection is used chiefly for clusters used on 500 to 600-volt electric railway systems. special forms of clusters are made for domes or other large fixtures having as many as 20 lamps in the cluster, and arranged in various groupings. the patented cluster was manufactured by the benjamin electric co., chicago, il. lightly incised patent dates are found on the yellow brass shell. the cluster remains in perfect working condition.","brand":"vendor-unknown","offers":[{"title":"Default 20th century vintage industrial four light socket cluster with edison screw base plug. the keyless socket cluster contains a yellow brass shell or enclosure held in place with four porcelain socket rings or insulators. socket clusters are connected groups of lamp sockets that may be used in a single socket or as part of a fixture to permit several lamps to be burned simultaneously. they are frequently used for indirect and semi-indirect lighting fixtures or with glass balls or domes. this arrangement breaks up the light source into several smaller units and thus reduces the intrinsic brilliancy; it often gives a more artistic effect than a single lamp. the clusters are frequently arranged for mounting on an iron pipe or fixture stem, and in some forms are made with a plug at one end to screw into a medium-base socket. they are generally arranged so that only two wires need be connected to the cluster. from two to seven lamps are commonly used and the connections may be made so that the lamps are in series or parallel: the series connection is used chiefly for clusters used on 500 to 600-volt electric railway systems. special forms of clusters are made for domes or other large fixtures having as many as 20 lamps in the cluster, and arranged in various groupings. the patented cluster was manufactured by the benjamin electric co., chicago, il. lightly incised patent specialized in task lights. initially, dazor lights were used simply as table lamps, but after the beginning of world war ii, dazor lamps became famous for their high efficiency and lower costs. the government found that dazor's lamps helped to conserve energy and were cheaper than the traditional costly overhead lighting. dazor was also the first fluorescent lamp manufacturer to combine the technology of the portable task light with fluorescent light bulbs. the technology was highlighted in a display by general electric at the 1938 world's fair. the lamp became popular quickly, the staple-bound pamphlet features a three color print of a city landscape illuminated by the rays of a mazda light. there is a single hole punch through the entire 22 page pamphlet in the upper left corner, so it could be hung on a nail or from a string for easy reference. the inside is elegantly designed on glossy paper, with orange borders around black and white photographs, pen and ink illustrations in the bottom right hand corner, glosses in the margins, and written-out page numbers. the publication promotes electric lighting, emphasizing the line of mazda lamps, with the claim that “any ordinary 16 candle-power carbon lamp can be replaced by a 40 watt g.e. mazda lamp giving twice as much light, and using 20 percent less current than the carbon lamp, at the same time providing light of vastly superior quality”. it includes lighting plans for an eight room house, general prices for electric lighting, and specifications for mazda lamps and holophane reflectors. it is in good condition; there is a sticker in the upper right corner that partially obscures the title and a slight tear at the head of the spine edge. general electric was begun by thomas edison in 1876; the year of this publication was the same year that national electric lamp association (nela) was absorbed into general electric's lighting business. in 1911 ge also established its lighting division headquarters at nela park, the world's first industrial park, in east cleveland, ohio. measures 4 3\/16 x 9 ¼ inches.","brand":"vendor-unknown","offers":[{"title":"Default
